How to get started with Ritu
– step by step

Clear instructions for downloading Ritu, setting up your family, inviting loved ones and filling the app with shared moments. No prior experience needed.

1

Who does what

Worth reading before you begin

Ritu has three roles. The person using Ritu doesn't need to know any of them – the family takes care of everything for them.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ’Ό

Admin

The family member who sets up the family with an email address. Manages PIN codes, invitations and the details of the person using Ritu. Usually one person.

πŸ‘ͺ

Family member

Joins with an invite code on their own device. Can add events, photos and family members.

🌻

Loved one

The person living with dementia, for whom Ritu is made. Opens the app with a single 4-digit PIN – nothing more.

πŸ’‘

The quickest start: download Ritu on your loved one's own device and set up the family there (parts 2–3). Then invite the other family members to join on their own devices (part 4).

2

Download Ritu

On every device Β· the loved one and family members

Ritu is its own app for iPhone and Android. Download it on every device that will use Ritu – first on your loved one's device, then on each family member's own phone.

  1. iPhone / iPad

Open the App Store, search for Ritu and tap Get.

  2. Android

Open Google Play, search for Ritu and tap Install.

  3. Open the app

Launch Ritu from the sunflower icon. The first time, you'll see a welcome screen where you can go on to set up a family or join one.

Can't install the app? Ritu also works in your browser at rituapp.fi/app – all these instructions apply there too.

πŸ“Ά

Ritu works without a connection: the most recently saved information shows even when you're offline. New additions are saved once the connection returns.

3

Set up your family

Admin Β· about 5 minutes Β· on the loved one's device

  1. Open Ritu and get started

Open the Ritu app you downloaded. On the welcome screen, choose Set up a new family under β€œFor family members and those who care.”

  2. Enter your email address

Type in your own email and tap Send link. This is the admin account – remember which address it is.

  3. Open the sign-in link from your email

You'll receive a sign-in link by email. Open the link on the same device you started on. It opens Ritu and signs you in.

  4. Fill in your family's details

Just add these and tap Save:

    • Loved one's name – who Ritu is for (e.g. your mother's name).
    • Family PIN (4 digits) – your loved one uses this to open the app every day.
    • Admin PIN (4–6 digits) – this gets you into management. Keep it to yourself.
πŸ”‘

Choose two different PIN codes. The family PIN is an easy 4-digit code your loved one knows well (e.g. a year of birth). The admin PIN is just for you – don't use the same one as the family PIN.

4

Invite family members

The admin shares the code Β· family members join on their own devices

  1. Open management

On your loved one's home screen, tap the gear βš™ in the top right and enter the admin PIN.

  2. Create a family invite code

Go to the Settings tab and find Family invite code. Tap Create family code and then Copy code.

The same code works for all family members and stays valid for about 90 days.

  3. Share the code with your loved ones

Send the code to family members, for example by text message or WhatsApp.

  4. A family member joins

Each family member opens the Ritu app they downloaded on their own device, chooses Join with an invite code, enters the code and taps Continue. The device joins the same family.

πŸ”’

If the code falls into the wrong hands, you can make a new one: Settings β†’ Family invite code β†’ Create new code. The old one stops working right away.

5

Add events and photos

Any family member

Events appear clearly to your loved one in two lists: What I've done and What's coming next.

  1. Open management and events

Tap the gear βš™ on the home screen, enter the admin PIN and go to the Events tab. Tap Add event.

  2. Fill in the event details

    • Title – short and clear, e.g. β€œMorning coffee with Maria.”
    • Date and start/end time.
    • Note (optional) – extra detail if needed.
    • Photos – you can add up to 3 photos per event.

    Finish by tapping Save.

  3. Edit or delete anytime

In the list, every event has Edit and Delete. Past and upcoming events update automatically as time goes on.

πŸ“·

Photo tip: the most ordinary moments work best – morning coffee, a walk, visitors, a celebration. A photo helps your loved one remember and feel connected.

6

Add family

Any family member

The Family view shows your loved one who's who – with faces, names and relationships.

  1. Open the Family tab

In management, go to the Family tab and tap Add person.

  2. Fill in the person's details

    • Name and photo (a face photo is easiest to recognize).
    • Relationship – spouse, child or grandchild.
    • Whose child – for a grandchild, pick the parent so the family tree comes out right.
    • Birthday – shows up in birthday reminders.

    Tap Save.

  3. Birthdays take care of themselves

When someone has a birthday, a warm reminder appears on your loved one's home screen automatically. You don't have to do a thing.

🌻

Family members' photos are added right here on the Family tab – not in Settings.

7

Everyday use

The loved one – this is all they need to know

  1. Open Ritu

Your loved one taps the sunflower icon and enters the family's 4-digit PIN code. No passwords, no email.

  2. The home screen tells the day

A big clock, the day of the week and the date, plus a warm greeting. Below are What I've done and What's coming next.

  3. Family at a single touch

The Family button in the bottom bar shows loved ones with their photos and names. Tap a photo to make it larger.

πŸ’›

Your loved one only needs to remember one thing: the 4-digit PIN. If it helps, you can write it on a small note next to the device.

8

Settings and management

Admin Β· Management β†’ Settings

All management is behind the gear βš™ on the home screen, using the admin PIN. From the Settings tab you can:

  1. Change the PIN codes

Change family PIN and Change admin PIN. The old code is always asked for before setting a new one.

  2. Manage the invite code and your loved one's details

You'll see the family invite code, your loved one's name and birthday. You can create a new code anytime.

  3. Lock the device or leave the family

Lock device asks for the PIN again but keeps the family. Leave family on this device disconnects the device – getting back in requires an invite code or signing in.

  4. Clear the data

Clear all data removes events and family details. This can't be undone – use with care.

πŸ“¦

Free version limits: up to 5 family members and 15 photos in total. Paid Ritu Family brings unlimited space – coming soon.

Frequently asked

Quick fixes for the most common situations

The sign-in link didn't arrive in my email

Check your spam folder. The link can take a few minutes to arrive. Also make sure you typed the email address correctly, and try sending the link again.

The sign-in link doesn't open the app

Open the sign-in link on the same device you downloaded Ritu to. Make sure the app has finished installing. If you open the link on a different device from the one you requested it on, the sign-in won't go through.

I forgot the admin PIN

Sign in again as the admin from the welcome screen under Sign in as admin, using the email the family was created with. After that you can set the PIN codes again from Settings.

My loved one can't get in with the PIN

Make sure it's the family PIN (4 digits), not the admin PIN. After too many wrong attempts, wait 15 minutes and try again.

The invite code isn't accepted

The code may have expired or been replaced by a new one. Ask the admin to check the valid code under Settings β†’ Family invite code or to create a new one.

I can't add a new photo or member

You've probably reached the free version limit (5 family members / 15 photos). You can remove old ones or move to the paid Ritu Family version when it launches.

Where is the data stored?

All family data is stored encrypted on servers in the EU, in line with GDPR and isolated per family. Read more in the privacy policy.

All done 🌻

Now your loved one has a clear day and family close by. Ritu will be available to download soon – anything still unclear? We're happy to help.
